Set 1 Problem number 3

Problem

If it moves at .000349 meters per second for 6.5195 seconds, how far will an object move?

Solution

8.712 meters in one second would be 8.712( 7.733) meters in 7.733 seconds, or  67.36 meters.

Generalized Solution

We know that the change in position `ds in a time interval `dt is equal to the product of the average rate of change of position, or average velocity vAve, and the time interval.

Explanation in terms of Figure(s), Extension

The figure below depicts the fact that if we know vAve and `dt, we can find `ds. The relationship between vAve, `dt and `ds is indicated in red.

In this figure vAve stands for velocity, which is just like speed except that it also has a direction.
